As a native to Camden, NJ Orlando Salas has a passion for helping his community and advocating for the rights of those who are disenfranchised. He is a first generation Latinx college graduate who started his academic career at Camden County College earning an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Orlando then transferred to The College of New Jersey where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, with a concentration in radio, TV, and film. At graduation, he was awarded the Communication’s Department’s Leadership and Advocacy Award. After college, he interned at WHYY as a production assistant for the music segment show, On Tour.

With his creative background, Orlando has created digital media content for both internal and external communications. This includes creating graphics and videos for social media, email marketing, newsletters, and advertisements.  He also has experience in video production, creating content for agency onboarding materials. An artist at heart, Orlando is also not afraid to be in front of the camera as well.

In addition, Orlando has over 4 years of experience managing community drives, working with donors, consumers, and volunteers. Through the course of his career, he has helped thousands of individuals in need, whether it is through a holiday drive, back to school drive, or food pantry distribution.  In 2020, Orlando was awarded the Bridging the Gap Award of Excellence by Philadelphia’s My City, My Place Brighter Futures Awards  for his efforts in managing Volunteers of America’s Adopt a Family program.

Since March 2021, Orlando has served as the Development and Communications Coordinator for Oaks Integrated Care. He is very involved in the agency’s Diversity Committee, assisting with organizational changes to make sure everything is approached with diversity, equity and inclusion. Inquisitive by nature, Orlando loves to think outside the box and has a knack for improving systems for efficiency.

On a personal note, Orlando continues to live in his hometown of Camden, NJ with his partner and their bunny Puddin’ and two cats Simba and Zahra. A proud nerd, Orlando loves superhero movies and comic book characters. Halloween is his favorite holiday because he loves to create costumes of his favorite characters. Orlando loves music and dancing, with a particular interest in the performing arts. In his college days, he was part of a Latin dance troupe that would perform through the school year.  Orlando hopes to one day start his own vlog or podcast series to connect with others through discussions of pop culture, social issues, and his own personal life experiences.
