No Appointment Needed
As children return to play this summer and fall, it is important to remember that getting a youth sports physical is the first step to ensuring your athlete's safety and enjoyment during the upcoming sports season.
Why get a physical?
Getting a sports physical can help minimize potential risks of illness or injury, allows medical professionals to monitor for health problems, and give age-appropriate advice.
A sports physical is meant to determine an athlete’s ability to safely engage in vigorous activity; it is not intended as a substitute for a general health maintenance exam.
How to prepare for a physical?
Prior to the sports physical:
- Check with your child’s school or sports league to obtain the required forms to bring with you during your visit
- Fill out the parent and student sections of the forms.
- Bring a list of prescription drugs your child is currently taking.
What to expect during a physical
The following is a general guide of what you can expect during the sports physical:
Discussion of Medical History
- Family history of serious illness
- Past and present illnesses
- Allergies
- Previous surgeries and/or hospitalizations
- Past injuries
- Past and present prescription drugs
Physical Exam

- Checking pulse and blood pressure
- Eye test
- Evaluation the condition of the heart, lungs and throat
