May NPO Spotlight: Legacy Treatment Services

NonProfit Educational Information Health & Wellness

For almost 75 years, during the month of May, the nation recognizes and celebrates those who persevere in spite of their mental health struggles and raises awareness about the issue of mental healthcare. Mental healthcare is an incredibly important part of overall health. With a growing number of Americans experiencing challenges, this month provides us with an opportunity to unite together in order to advocate for improved access to the mental healthcare system. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, it is estimated that over 1 in 5 Americans live with mental health struggles and mental illness; that is over 57 million people annually. Of those 57 million people, less than half seek out support and receive treatment. Stigma, misinformation, and disinformation all create substantial barriers in raising mental health awareness.

Legacy Treatment Services is one of the largest behavioral and mental healthcare organizations in the state of New Jersey and we are committed to destigmatizing conversations around mental health and offering interventions. If you or a loved one is struggling, Legacy offers various supports, resources, and treatments that help to steer those we serve toward a journey that takes them from simply surviving to actually thriving.

Legacy’s mental health services include crisis intervention, specialty residential care, therapeutic interventions, and various outpatient facilities throughout the state. Levels of care vary based on an individual’s needs and can range from medicine management and clinical therapy to temporary residential treatment to avoid hospitalization. These programs benefit thousands annually and continue to expand to meet the growing needs of our community.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a great time to take part in this cause by acting as an ambassador for mental health. This can be achieved through education and committing some of your time as a volunteer or by raising awareness on your personal platforms.  Simply talking about and normalizing the topic with those around you is vitally important as well.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, Legacy challenges you to support the national dialogue surrounding mental health. Take stock of your own feelings and needs and check in with those around you. Through consistent conversation and recognition, together we can destigmatize issues of mental health and offer treatment and care that is equitable and accessible for all.

Legacy Treatment Services stands in solidarity with those who are experiencing mental health struggles. Join the conversation and join our mission at www.legacytreatment.org.  Let’s make Mental Health Awareness Month a priority for ourselves and those that we care about.

If you or someone you know is struggling, Legacy is here to help. You can reach our hotline at 800-433-7365.
