Samaritan – Here for People, Not for Profit

Samaritan is a not-for-profit, independent healthcare provider founded locally in Moorestown, New Jersey in 1980. Since that time, Samaritan has stayed true to its mission to provide patient-centered care while introducing an ever-expanding continuum of life-enhancing services. These include home-based services at any stage: primary care, palliative medicine, hospice care, social connections, grief support, and more. Serving 5 counties in the South Jersey region including Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer counties, Samaritan provides care wherever patients call home (nursing home community, private residence, etc.). Additionally, Samaritan offers two inpatient hospice centers to provide a home-like feeling for patients who need intensive around-the-clock hospice care.

Samaritan is here for people, not for profit. Distinguished by the support of thousands of community donors, Samaritan offers an expanding range of “above and beyond” un- and under-reimbursed services.  In 2023, the Surgeon General of the United States began to warn of the increase of loneliness and isolation and the adverse effects on the population. Samaritan launched our Social Connections program to address these concerns within our community by bridging the gap for isolated individuals with services such as our Friendly Caller, Friendly Visitor, and Robotic Companion Pet Programs. The connections formed have enhanced the lives of patients and volunteers, and the community members participating.

Providing Education and Research

Through the Mary Ann Boccolini Institute for Education, Research & Innovation Samaritan provides exciting opportunities for clinical training for medical, nursing, and social work students. The Boccolini Institute’s research will support interdisciplinary person-centered healthcare, an integral part of how we provide care at Samaritan. In addition, the Institute will also support Samaritan’s missions with innovative programming addressing disease-specific needs, social isolation and loneliness, and support Samaritan’s commitment towards lowering barriers to care for under-served communities.

Complimentary Resources for the Community

The Samaritan Center for Grief Support provides grief resources for patients and complimentary grief support groups for the community. We know firsthand that loss is not one size fits all and offer a variety of groups that address a variety of needs. The Grief center recently began Healing Hearts, a space for grieving children & families, to help guardians navigate loss for themselves and their children. It also dually provides a healing space for the children to process their emotions through age-appropriate therapy.

In addition, Samaritan also provides complimentary resources to the community such as Five Wishes, an advance directive that helps individuals and families prepare to have their wishes honored at the end of life.
