Deborah Heart and Lung Center’s Institute for Sleep Medicine Receives Program Reaccreditation

Health & Wellness Honors & Awards

Browns Mills, NJ - Deborah Heart and Lung Center’s Institute for Sleep Medicine recently earned program reaccreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), demonstrating its commitment to the provision of high-quality care for people who have sleep problems. Sleep facility accreditation through the AASM includes accreditation for all types of sleep testing, including in-center polysomnography (PSG), multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT), maintenance of wakefulness testing (MWT) and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT).

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Deborah Heart and Lung Center on meeting the rigorous standards required to earn accreditation for sleep services,” said AASM President Dr. Eric J. Olson. “AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care, giving patients confidence and peace of mind when they seek help for a sleep disorder.”

AASM-accredited sleep centers provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for people who have problems related to sleep and alertness. Sleep disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy.

To receive and maintain accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

“We are honored to receive this important recognition from the AASM,” said Deborah’s Medical Director for the Institute of Sleep Medicine, Zeeshan Khan, DO. “This reaccreditation reflects our team’s dedication to excellence and underscores our commitment to delivering the highest standard of care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”

The AASM accredited a sleep disorders center for the first time in 1977. Today there are more than 2,300 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country. The AASM is a medical society for physicians, researchers and other health care professionals in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers, the AASM advances sleep care and enhances sleep health to improve lives.
