Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that Lisa Peterson, PE, PLS, CME, has been voted in as president of the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Peterson was previously appointed by the governor and approved by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee in November 2022. In her new role as board president, she will lead efforts to oversee the regulation of engineering and surveying licensure so that only qualified individuals are licensed to practice, thereby upholding public safety and maintaining the highest professional standards. The board is also responsible for enforcing compliance with state laws and investigating potential violations.

Peterson has more than 20 years of experience in civil engineering and land surveying and is a dually licensed professional engineer and professional land surveyor in New Jersey. At Dewberry, she is an associate vice president and manager of strategic client engagement across New Jersey and is based in the firm’s Mount Laurel office.

Peterson earned a bachelor’s degree in survey engineering technology from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (2010) and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology (2002). She is vice chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies of New Jersey’s New Jersey Department of Transportation Design Committee. She is also on the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying’s Examinations for Professional Surveyors Committee. In addition, Peterson is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Highway Engineers, New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors, and the Women’s Transportation Seminar. Peterson was named a 2018 Top Young Professional by Engineering News-Record New York and listed among the Women to Watch by South Jersey Biz in its February 2019
