School's Tradition Since 1847

School's Tradition Since 1847

This Friday, December 20, Doane Academy presents its oldest tradition: 'The Christmas Mystery.’

Originated as a tableaux in 1847 by our boarding students who were unable to travel home for the holidays, the Christmas Mystery is now a music-filled presentation on the Nativity. Performed word for word as it was written so long ago (the current script dates from 1930), the Christmas Mystery is our most beloved tradition.

Each year Upper School students vie for a part in the performance, with the parts of Mary and Joseph usually reserved for the senior boy and girl who have attended the school the longest, and the part of the Baby Jesus is usually filled by the baby of a Doane family or faculty member.

We will have two performances, both held in our historic 1847 Gothic Revival chapel. There will be a morning performance at 10:30 am, which will be attended by our students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. We will also have an evening performance, at 6pm sharp, which will be attended by alumni, our Upper School students, as well as family and friends.

We hope that you will attend.
