Property owners, the development team, industry and business representatives and elected officials gathered to cut the ribbon, celebrating the official opening of The Wexford in Lumberton. One-and two-bedroom luxury apartments are available for lease in the expansive community conveniently located off Route 38.

The Wexford consists of 304 units, 262 market-rate apartments and 42 low-income apartments; it is owned and operated by Viking Residential, based in Cherry Hill. It is part of a new community that also includes 90 single-family homes being built by PAPARONE and 70 affordable homes built by the Walters Group. This unique community, along with The Wexford’s units, serves to increase the availability of affordable housing in NJ.

The land was originally purchased by the late Robert T. Healey. Over the course of a decade, a redevelopment agreement was signed with the municipality, followed by a lengthy planning and approval process that concluded with construction completion earlier this year.

“Building a housing community that is a mix of market-rate and affordable apartments as well as single-family homes was a dream of my father’s since he purchased the 200 acres in Lumberton in 2014,” said Caroline Adillon, President, Viking Residential. “My brother, Bob Healey and my brother-in-law, Robert Sherriff and I worked closely on this project, but we couldn’t have developed this property without the help of many others from within the company. We wish to thank Mayor Gina LaPlaca, members of Township Committee and the diligent staff members within Lumberton Township for all their hard work and for being a part of turning my father’s dream into a reality.” Adillon concluded.

The property’s architect was VLBJR, and Bancroft Construction Company built the apartment community, club house and pool. Citizens Bank and Fulton Bank served as the lenders.
